The System Is Slow

wait. wait in line. wait in another line. wait for a man. wait for the bigger man. wait for a manager. wait for an hour. wait three hours. wait the whole day. wait forever for someone who actually cares.

wait till we sort out racism then we’ll get to the women. wait till we sort out GBV then we’ll get to the lesbians, bisexuals, gay & transgender persons. wait till we have the able-bodied out the way then we’ll get to the disabled.

wait in the SASSA line for a grant which could be more if you wait for government to tackle its corruption. wait for the next commission of enquiry. wait for the next elections. wait for the new president. wait for the ruling party of 27 years to settle in again. wait for opposition to act right and gain experience. waiting upon democracy to work.

waiting upon capitalism’s trickle down. waiting upon patriarchy’s protection. waiting upon white supremacy’s subjugation.

wait in hope. wait in love. wait for those dreams to come true. wait for that job. waiting with bated breath for the pandemic to pass. wait for normal days. wait till the end of days. wait for Godot.
